A law expanding the grounds for dismissal of a foreign employee has been signed by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
Amendments to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation stipulate that it is now legally permissible to terminate an employment contract with a foreign worker in cases where the employer is required to reduce the number of foreign employees in compliance with regulatory legal acts of a Russian Federation subject.
An important addition. An employee can only be dismissed in accordance with federal laws, presidential decrees of Russia, and government resolutions. Decisions made at the regional level are not included in the list of grounds.
The law will come into force on March 1, 2026.
