The Russian ruble is strengthening by around 0.8% against major currencies on Friday.

The dollar-ruble pair (USD/RUB) is trading at 80.72 rubles (ask) per U.S. dollar.

On the interbank currency market, the ruble-yuan pair (CNY/RUB) is testing the level of 12.08 rubles (ask) per yuan on Friday.

Starting December 27, 2024, the Central Bank of Russia will set official exchange rates of foreign currencies against the ruble based on consolidated data from both exchange and over-the-counter segments of the currency market. This move, outlined in Regulation No. 6956-U, aims to enhance the representativeness of official rates amid growing volumes of over-the-counter transactions.

As of June 8, 2026, the Central Bank of Russia has revised the calculation method for the official euro-ruble exchange rate. Instead of using direct euro-ruble quotes, the bank now calculates the rate via a cross-currency calculation using data from the European Central Bank. The new formula is EUR/RUB = USD/RUB × EUR/USD (based on ECB data).
