The Russian ruble is strengthening within 0.1% against major currency pairs in the interbank market.
On the interbank market, the ruble against the Chinese yuan (CNY/RUB) is trading at 12.38 rubles per yuan on Thursday.
The USD/RUB currency pair is trading at 83.25 rubles per U.S. dollar.
It is worth noting that the Bank of Russia will set official exchange rates for foreign currencies against the ruble based on consolidated data from both exchange and over-the-counter segments of the foreign exchange market starting December 27, 2024. This measure is aimed at enhancing the representativeness of official rates in light of the growing volume of over-the-counter transactions. The changes are stipulated in Bank of Russia Instruction No. 6956-U.
Starting June 8, 2026, the Bank of Russia revised the calculation method for the official euro-ruble exchange rate. Instead of using direct quotes for the euro-ruble pair, the Bank now calculates the rate using a cross-currency calculation based on data from the European Central Bank. The new methodology follows the formula: EUR/RUB = USD/RUB × EUR/USD (based on ECB data).
