The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) issued a warning in connection with public statements about a possible increase in food prices. The reason was a media report about a rise in food prices by up to 30%, the press service of the agency reported. The FAS emphasized that such statements may be perceived by market participants as a signal or indirect encouragement to raise prices. Antimonopoly legislation prohibits coordinated actions by business entities, including competitors, if they lead or may lead to the establishment, maintenance, or increase of prices. The service clarified that the issued warning is preventive in nature and aimed at preventing possible violations of antimonopoly legislation at an early stage. The FAS also assured that in case of detecting signs of unlawful behavior or setting unjustified prices by individual companies, the agency will promptly take measures of antitrust response within its powers.
