The State Duma has called for an inspection of all maternity hospitals following a tragic incident in Novokuznetsk, reports TASS, citing a written appeal from the head of the State Duma Committee on Civil Society Development, Public and Religious Associations, Yana Lantratova, to Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko. According to the letter, the initiative was prompted by information about the death of nine newborns in one of the maternity hospitals in Novokuznetsk during the New Year holidays. Lantratova stated that the incident raises doubts about the effectiveness of the current neonatal care system and requires immediate attention at the federal level. The deputy believes it is necessary to initiate a comprehensive audit of the conditions for providing medical care to newborns in all maternity hospitals across the country. This includes checking life-support systems, infant care conditions, and analyzing existing observation and medical support protocols. Additionally, the appeal suggests evaluating the quality of medical standards and strengthening control over their compliance by introducing additional monitoring mechanisms in perinatal institutions. Currently, the case of the deaths of infants in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital has been transferred to the central office of the Investigative Committee. The decision was made following an instruction from the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Бастрыкин (Bastyrkin).
