The Russian government is considering changes to the regulation of brown bear populations, including potentially removing the species from the list of limited species, which would allow regions to take necessary measures more quickly.
This possibility was announced by the office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev following a meeting focused on the increasing number of bear attacks on humans.
"The Russian government is working on amendments to the regulatory framework that would enable regions to promptly adopt additional measures regarding population regulation," the statement said.
One option under consideration is changing the status of the brown bear by removing it from the category of limited species. This would provide regional authorities with greater flexibility to manage animal populations in response to local conditions.
The final decision on these potential changes is still being discussed.
