European imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) increased by 17% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 5 million tons, according to data from Kpler cited by Financial Times.

Experts estimate that EU countries paid approximately €2.88 billion for Russian LNG. The increase in imports is attributed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
