Digital platforms association, which includes Ozon, Wildberries, Yandex, Sber and Avito, have asked Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko and Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin not to equate them with retail chains for selling food products, as retailers and food industry representatives are insisting on. This was reported by Forbes.

In their letter, the Association stated that digital platforms account for less than 5% of the food market, and for many small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), online platforms are the only sales channel for such products due to the difficulty of getting them into large retail chains. The proposed ban by retailers on selling food products through digital platforms on a commission basis was described by the Association as an attempt to limit competition and maintain a "monopoly position" in the food market.

  • Earlier, the Retailers and Food Industry Associations had requested that marketplaces be equated with retail chains, prohibit the commission model and interfere with pricing policies.
