In Russia, in 2025, the production of ethyl alcohol decreased by 10%, reaching 76.49 million decaliters, according to data cited by "Kommersant," a major Russian business newspaper. At the same time, the production of pharmaceutical alcohol dropped by 56%, falling to 2.5 million decaliters. The decline in production was attributed to a decrease in demand for alcoholic beverages. During the first half of 2025, demand for such alcohol fell by 20-30% year-on-year. This trend was influenced by the fact that in late 2024, many manufacturers anticipated an increase in the minimum retail price of vodka and built up significant stockpiles of alcohol. By early 2025, they began halting production. Although demand stabilized in the second half of the year, it was insufficient to offset the initial decline. Industry experts believe that the decline in production will continue in 2026. The increasing alcohol акцизы (excise taxes) will exert further pressure on the sector.
