The Russian Ministry of Transport has issued a statement in response to the actions of the U.S. Coast Guard, which today seized the tanker "Marinera" flying the Russian flag.
"Today, around 3 p.m. Moscow time, in international waters beyond the territorial waters of any state, U.S. naval forces boarded the vessel, and communication with the ship was lost," the statement reads.
The ministry emphasized that, in accordance with the norms of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, in international waters, the regime of freedom of navigation applies, and no state has the right to use force against vessels properly registered under the jurisdiction of other states.
It is noted that on December 24, 2025, the vessel "Marinera" received a temporary permit to sail under the Russian state flag, issued in accordance with Russian legislation and international law norms.
