Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law significantly toughening the liability for imposing additional goods and services on consumers. The document has been published on the official portal of legal acts. Amendments are being made to Articles 3.5 and 14.8 of the Code of Administrative Offences, substantially increasing the amounts of fines. Previously, officials risked fines ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 rubles for such violations, while legal entities faced fines from 20,000 to 40,000 rubles. Now, the sanctions are becoming much stricter. Under the new law, fines for officials and individual entrepreneurs will amount to between 50,000 and 150,000 rubles. Legal entities will face penalties ranging from 200,000 to 500,000 rubles. The authorities expect that the increase in fines will strengthen consumer rights protection and become an effective measure against the practice of imposing additional services and goods when purchasing primary products.
