In Russia, the purchasing power of maternity capital has decreased by half over the past 10 years, according to data from the Research Institute of Labor in the report "Improving Housing Conditions for Families with Children Using Maternity Capital," as reported by "Izvestia".

Over the past decade, the area of housing available for purchase using maternity capital funds on the primary market has more than halved. If in 2015, the funds allocated by the state for a child could buy an average of about 9 square meters, by 2025, it will be enough only for 3.5-4 square meters. By the end of 2025, the average price of a "square meter" in new buildings across the country is 180 thousand rubles, while the maternity capital for the first child is 690 thousand rubles and 912 thousand rubles for the second child.

On the secondary market, the area of housing available for purchase using maternity capital funds has decreased by 35% compared to the peak in 2017. Today, these funds can buy about 6 square meters of housing. On the secondary market, the average cost of a "square meter" is 120 thousand rubles.

Experts explain this trend by the acceleration of inflation and the weakening of the ruble. Over the period, the national currency has depreciated by almost 1.8 times against the dollar and euro. At the same time, housing prices have grown faster.
