EU Increases Russian Medicines Procurement Sevenfold

The European Union significantly increased its purchases of Russian pharmaceutical products in September, according to an analysis of Eurostat data reported by RIA Novosti. The monthly import volume reached its highest level since the end of 2020, increasing more than sevenfold. The total value of purchases in the first month of autumn amounted to 7.6 million euros. In monthly terms, the growth was 720%, and in annual terms, it was about 500%. Such high levels of euro imports of Russian medicines have not been seen since December 2020. The cumulative volume of supplies from January to September 2025 is estimated at 26.9 million euros, which is twice as much as the same period last year. The largest share of Russian drugs went to Slovenia (6.5 million euros) and Hungary (951 thousand euros). Imports of foreign drugs also increased. In September, the import of pharmaceutical products from the EU to Russia increased by 14% in monthly terms and by 9% in annual terms, reaching 553.8 million euros. Since the beginning of the year, the dynamics have shown only a slight increase of 1.1%. The total volume of imports amounted to 5.16 billion euros from January to September, compared to 5.10 billion euros for the same period in 2024. The largest exporters to Russia in September were: - Germany (134.6 million euros); - Netherlands (82.7 million euros); - Belgium (78.1 million euros); - Slovenia (49 million euros); - Austria (31 million euros).
