Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Jedović-Handanović, announced that Russian owners have sold their stake in NIS, a company engaged in oil and natural gas processing. The company has been subject to U.S. sanctions. Russia previously owned 56.15% of NIS. The new owner has not been disclosed, as the minister stated that these are ongoing serious business negotiations between companies.
Sanctions against NIS were imposed on January 10 of this year. It was recently reported that the U.S. demanded the company divest its Russian ownership by February 13 in order to lift the restrictions, as noted by RIA Novosti.
Additionally, the company announced that its management has submitted a new application to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury for a special license that would ensure unhindered operation of the company.
