In January-October 2025, imports of new passenger cars in Russia fell by 64% to 290,000 units compared to the same period last year, according to figures cited by Sergei Tselikov, director of Autostat, in his Telegram channel.
"I see three reasons for such a sharp decline in import volumes. Firstly, the market volume decreased by 20%. Secondly, there were large stocks from last year. And thirdly, production volumes have increased within Russia. Each factor contributed to this decline," emphasized Tselikov.
In particular, imports of new cars from China fell by 68% to 210,000 units. However, China remains the largest source of supply, accounting for 72.5% of total car imports to Russia. Shipments through Kyrgyzstan decreased by 52.5% to 32,500 units.
Tselikov also pointed out two growing directions - South Korea and Belarus (which serves as a transit country for cars from the EU). However, the volume of car imports from these countries is still slightly over 4% of the total volume.
The top five exporting countries also include Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of the year, 10,000 new passenger cars have been imported to Russia through Kazakhstan.
