The government has approved a roadmap for the implementation of biometric boarding on railway transport. The new system, designed to make trips as comfortable and seamless as possible, will begin operating in pilot mode as early as 2026, reports TASS. The Russian Ministry of Transport officially announced plans to launch a biometric data-based boarding system for trains. The project will be implemented in stages: in 2026, the service will be tested on a limited number of routes, and only after evaluating all the results will it be scaled up to the entire network. The system is based on the Unified Biometric System. To use the service, passengers will need to submit their verified biometric data (e.g., facial image) to the system in advance and give consent for its processing. Biometrics will not replace traditional identification methods. It will become an additional, more convenient option. Passengers will always have the choice to present a standard document (passport) or use biometrics. According to the ministry, the technology is already in the active testing phase. A special test group has been formed to test all elements of the future service.
