Law enforcement agencies in the Novgorod region have detained former regional Minister of Agriculture, Viktor Vitvitsky. He is suspected of receiving bribes in an especially large amount. A corresponding criminal case has been initiated, according to the regional Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
Investigators believe that between 2020 and 2025, while holding a high position in the regional government, Vitvitsky received bribes from businessmen in exchange for assistance in obtaining subsidies (grants) allocated for the development of agriculture and support of farmers. The total amount of bribes received is estimated at 6.5 million rubles.
Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the former minister in the form of detention is being resolved.
