In Russia, the average retail price for salted herring in September 2025 reached 375 rubles per 1 kg, which is 28% higher compared to the same period last year. At the same time, wholesale prices for herring decreased by 14% over the year, to 185 rubles per 1 kg. This is reported with reference to data from Rosstat and the National Fish Resource «Известия».

Prices for other fish products are also rising at a noticeable rate. In particular, salted, pickled and smoked fish have risen in price by 25% since the beginning of the year. Frozen butchered (except salmon) gained an average of 24%, unshared - 28%, live and chilled fish - 17%.

At the same time, since the beginning of the year in Russia, the catch of herring has increased by a quarter, to 455.5 thousand tons, the catch of pollock increased by 4.1%, to 1.8 million tons, and the catch of cod decreased by 19.4%, to 236.8 thousand tons.

According to experts, the increase in retail prices for fish is affected by rising costs for logistics, storage and processing, as well as increased costs for fuel, electricity, and wages.

The FAS, at the request of the publication, stated that they were checking the validity of price changes for fish products. The Agency sent requests to 37 fishing organizations to analyze the volumes of production, primary processing and products sold in the cost structure.
