### Russian Ruble Strengthens Slightly on Interbank Market
The Russian ruble is strengthening by around 1% on the interbank market on Wednesday.
On the interbank market, the ruble-to-Chinese yuan (CNY/RUB) exchange rate is trading at 12.69 rubles per yuan.
The USD/RUB pair is trading at 85.16 rubles per U.S. dollar.
It is worth noting that the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) will set official exchange rates for foreign currencies against the ruble starting December 27, 2024, based on combined data from both exchange-traded and over-the-counter segments of the foreign exchange market. This measure, outlined in CBR Regulation No. 6956-U, is intended to enhance the representativeness of official rates given the growing volume of off-exchange transactions.
The regulation also allows for the calculation of exchange rates via cross-rates if trading data for certain currency pairs becomes unavailable.
Since June 8, 2026, the CBR has changed the method of calculating the official euro-to-ruble (EUR/RUB) exchange rate. Instead of relying on direct euro-ruble quotes, the CBR now calculates the rate using a cross-rate based on data from the European Central Bank (ECB). The new methodology follows the formula: EUR/RUB = USD/RUB × EUR/USD (ECB data).
