Iran no longer bound by memorandum of understanding with US due to resumed military actions, says deputy foreign minister
The United States has violated its commitments and resumed military operations in the Middle East, leading Iran to abandon a previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the US, according to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi.
"We are now in a situation where the US has violated all its commitments and resumed military and aggressive actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. They have faced a resolute response from our valiant armed forces. Under these circumstances, Iran does not feel any obligations, as there is no longer any MoU to speak of," Gharibabadi was quoted as saying by the Tasnim News Agency.
- The US and Iran signed the MoU less than a month ago (June 18). The two sides had intended to halt military operations on all fronts and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil transportation. However, since then, both sides have repeatedly exchanged attacks. On Monday, US President Donald Trump informed Congress of the resumption of military operations in Iran.
