Russian Tu-22M3 Bomber Crashes During Landing Approach in Irkutsk Region

An Irkutsk Region-based Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bomber crashed during a routine training flight, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The ministry reported that the accident occurred while the aircraft was approaching landing. The crew members managed to eject safely and survived the incident without any life-threatening injuries.

It was emphasized that the aircraft was not carrying any ammunition during the mission. Additionally, the crash did not cause any damage on the ground.

An investigation team from the Main Command of the Russian Aerospace Forces has been dispatched to the site to determine the cause of the incident.

The Tu-22M3 is a class of long-range supersonic bomber aircraft with variable-sweep wings. Serial production of this model began in the late 1970s, and it was officially introduced into service in 1989.
