Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the St. Pyotrsburg International Economic Forum, held his annual meeting with leaders of major international news agencies, organized by TASS (a leading Russian state news agency).
Responding to questions from participants, the president stated that Moscow had not made any foreign policy pivot towards Asia. He emphasized that the strategic course for developing relations with China was established long before current geopolitical developments.
Putin recalled that the fundamental treaty between Russia and China was signed back in 2001, highlighting the long-term nature of the partnership between the two countries. The president stressed that cooperation between Moscow and Beijing is evolving consistently and is based on mutual interests.
The Russian leader described the relationship between the two states as a natural partnership, noting that their interaction is not directed against third countries but rather aimed at achieving their own economic and strategic goals.
Putin also touched on the topic of energy cooperation with China. He mentioned that in the near future, the two sides may announce new agreements in this area, which would represent another step in the development of bilateral relations.
