Yerevan and Washington have embarked on the practical implementation of the "Trump Route" project. On May 26, Armenian Foreign Minister Araрат Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed an interstate framework agreement on strategic cooperation within the TRIPP initiative in Yerevan.
The TRIPP project was proposed in August 2025 at the Washington Summit attended by U.S. President Donald Trump. At that time, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration on peaceful settlement. The main part of the document was the creation of a transport communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and its exclave Nakhchivan – the "Trump Route".
The text of the framework agreement has not been publicly disclosed, but previous statements indicate that it involves coordination of routes, security standards, and possible participation of American companies in the construction and management of transit infrastructure. For the U.S., this document will become a geopolitical tool of influence in the South Caucasus.
The Azerbaijani authorities have not yet officially announced their position on the agreement reached.
