### Russia to Raise Import Duty on Hard Alcohol from Unfriendly Countries
Starting in May 2026, Russia plans to increase the import duty on hard alcohol from unfriendly countries, according to sources cited by [Kommersant](https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/8535972?max). The duty is expected to rise from the current rate of 3 euros per liter of alcohol in the beverage to 5 euros.
The measure is intended to boost demand for domestically produced hard alcohol, particularly cognac and whisky. As a result, prices for foreign-made products are expected to rise significantly.
Since September 2024, Russia has imposed a 20% import duty on hard alcohol from unfriendly countries, with a minimum rate of 3 euros per liter of alcohol in the beverage.
