### Russian Pork Prices Plunge 27% Amid Overproduction
By February 1, the wholesale price of pork in Russia dropped to 104 rubles ($1.30) per kilogram, marking a 27% decline year-on-year, according to data from NTech cited by the Russian business daily *Kommersant*.
The price decline was observed across most major pork cuts, with the most significant drops seen in belly cuts (-30% year-on-year) and shoulder cuts (-26%). In contrast, loin prices increased by 18%.
Experts attribute the fall in wholesale prices to overproduction. From January to November 2025, Russia produced 3.79 million tons of pork, a 22% increase year-on-year. However, demand for pork did not rise, with consumption remaining steady at an average of 31.5 kg per person annually.
Market participants describe the current pork prices as uncomfortable, as they are close to production costs, which increased by 25-30% in the previous year. If this trend continues, it could lead to smaller farms exiting the market.
