The RUONIA Rate, serving as the benchmark for coupon payments on most exchange-traded bonds with floating yields, stabilized at 15.64% on Thursday. RUONIA (Russian Overnight Index Average) is an indicative overnight interbank lending rate in rubles. It is calculated as the weighted average of actual overnight lending transactions between the top 35 Russian banks. The RUSFAR ON RUB rate (overnight in rubles) stands at 15.7%, while the RUSFAR ON CNY (overnight in yuan) is +0.68%. It is important to note that RUONIA (Russian Unsecured Overnight Index Average) is an unsecured overnight lending rate calculated by the Bank of Russia based on transactions of the top 35 banks, while RUSFAR (Russian Secured Funding Average Rate) is the secured funding rate (collateralized repo with a central counterparty) calculated by the Moscow Exchange for various terms (overnight, 1 month, 3 months, etc.). RUSFAR serves as a key reference: - It reflects the level of money market rates in Russia. - It is derived from the average values of repo transactions with a central counterparty. - It is included in the list of approved financial indicators by the Bank of Russia. The main difference is that RUONIA is an unsecured rate, while RUSFAR is a secured rate, but both are key indicators of the cost of money in the market and are used for floating rates in bonds. The overview was presented by Alexei Grishchenko, Ph.D., Professor of the Department of Operational and Industry Management at the Faculty of "Higher School of Management" of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
