EU countries increased purchases of Russian pipeline gas and LNG by 5%

According to the results of January-July 2005, the total purchases of Russian gas by the EU amounted to 8.4 billion euros. Compared to the same period last year, the indicator increased by 5%. This is reported by TASS with reference to Eurostat data.

Since the beginning of the year, the EU has purchased 3.2 billion euros worth of pipeline gas from Russia, and 5.1 billion euros worth of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

In July, EU countries purchased LNG from Russia for 657 million euros. The main importers were Belgium (330 million euros), France (173 million euros) and the Netherlands (84 million euros). Spain has reduced the purchase of LNG from the Russian Federation to a minimum over the past five years (34 million euros).

The share of Russian fuel in the total LNG imports of the EU countries in July was 17.7%. The United States took the first place with a share of 54%. The share of pipeline gas from the Russian Federation in the EU market was 10.7%. Norway is in first place (28%), Great Britain is in second (24%), Algeria is in third (22%).
