Russia has retained its leadership in the global herring market

In 2025, Russia retains its leading position in the global herring market. This is reported by TASS with reference to the data of the All-Russian Association of Fishermen.

According to the analysis of customs statistics of the main importing countries, in the first half of the year, Russian enterprises exported 113.4 thousand tons of frozen herring for a total of 86.85 million dollars. The main importers of Russian herring are China and Korea.

In the first half of the year, export shipments increased by 29% in volume and by one and a half times in value. At the same time, it was noted that the significant increase this year is due to the low base of 2024. Exports have not yet returned to the level of 2023.

Experts record a favorable fishing environment for Russian fishermen. As of September 1, the catch of Pacific herring reached 375.3 thousand tons, which is 18.2% more than last year. It was noted that herring fillets are in high demand among Russians, so more than 95% of these products remain on the domestic market.
