Sales of new passenger cars in Russia increased by 50 in 2024%

In 2024, 1.57 million new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 48.4% higher than in 2023. This is reported by Autostat.

Market participants attribute this dynamic to pent-up demand after deficits in previous years. The figures for the past year were the best since 2019, despite the high Central Bank rate, the volatility of the ruble exchange rate and the indexation of recycling.

Domestic Lada cars became the leader of the car market in 2024. Sales of Avtovaz passenger cars increased by 34.4% year-on-year, to 436.16 thousand units.

The Chinese Haval became the sales leader among foreign cars. Sales growth for the year amounted to 70.6%, to 190.62 thousand units. Also among the TOP-selling car brands in the country are Chery (+32%), Geely (+59.4%), Changan (2.2 times).

However, in 2025, experts at Autostat expect sales in the car market to decrease by 10%, to 1.43 million units.
