The Central Bank started conducting regular currency transactions again

Starting from January 9, 2025, the Bank of Russia resumed conducting regular currency transactions, which were suspended in November 2024.

The Ministry of Finance previously announced that from December 6, 2024 to January 14, 2025, it was planned to buy currency in the amount of 5.45 billion rubles per day. With this in mind, from January 9 to January 14, 2025, the Central Bank will carry out a net sale of currency in the amount of 3.41 billion rubles per day.

From January 15 to June 30, 2025, the Central Bank will buy or sell foreign currency, depending on the monthly plans of the Ministry of Finance for the volume of regular operations under the budget rule for sales of 8.86 billion rubles per day.

At the end of June 2025, the Bank of Russia will announce how currency transactions will be adjusted in the second half of 2025. This will depend on how much money the Ministry of Finance has invested in various financial assets in rubles and how much was spent to cover the budget deficit for the first half of 2025 and for 2024.
