Since January 6, Indonesia has become a full member of the BRICS. This is reported by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.

The agency said in a statement that Indonesia received approval to join from community members back in August 2023, but the entry process was postponed for a year, until the next presidential election. Indonesia has been a candidate for BRICS membership for 15 years, since it officially expressed its desire to join the community in 2010.

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry notes that Indonesia is considered the most populous country and has the largest economy among Southeast Asian countries. It fully complies with the requirements of the BRICS and will contribute to deepening cooperation in the global South.

In 2024, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Ethiopia officially joined the BRICS. Since January 1, 2025, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have received the status of BRICS partners.
