### Russian Ruble Strengthens by 0.5% on Interbank Market
On Wednesday, the Russian ruble is gaining strength within a range of 0.5% on the interbank market.
The interbank rate for the ruble against the Chinese yuan (CNY/RUB) is currently at 12.30 rubles per yuan.
The USD/RUB pair is trading at 82.20 rubles per U.S. dollar.
It is worth noting that the Bank of Russia will establish official exchange rates for foreign currencies against the ruble based on consolidated data from both exchange and over-the-counter segments of the foreign exchange market starting December 27, 2024. This change, outlined in Bank of Russia Instruction No. 6956-U, is aimed at improving the representativeness of official rates given the increasing volume of over-the-counter transactions.
The document also provides for the possibility of calculating exchange rates using cross-rates if trading data for certain currency pairs becomes unavailable.
Since June 8, 2026, the Bank of Russia has changed the methodology for calculating the official exchange rate of the euro against the ruble. Instead of using direct quotes for the EUR/RUB pair, the Bank now calculates the rate through a cross-rate using data from the European Central Bank. The new formula is EUR/RUB = USD/RUB × EUR/USD (based on ECB data).
