Russian lawmakers have introduced a bill that would toughen penalties for public calls to terrorism, mass riots, and violent actions, State Duma member Vasily Piskarev announced.
The draft legislation proposes increasing prison sentences for inciting mass riots, participation in them, and the use of violence against civilians. The proposed punishment for such actions could reach up to four years in prison.
Separate sanctions are planned for cases where such calls are disseminated via the internet or mass media. In these circumstances, the maximum prison term could be extended to six years.
The bill also envisages additional measures of responsibility for inciting terrorism, justifying it, or promoting it. Specifically, it proposes punishment in the form of disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to six years.
Another provision of the initiative concerns the protection of government officials. The authors of the bill propose raising the maximum fine for violence against such individuals to 500,000 rubles.
