Russia Not Supplying Iran With Weapons - Lavrov

Russia is calling for an immediate end to the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz, as further escalation negatively impacts the global economy, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said following the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) events held in the Philippines.

Lavrov also dismissed Western claims that Moscow is supplying Iran with weapons used to attack U.S. targets.

"In the West, particularly in Washington, there are now active statements being made that Russia and China are allegedly directly supplying Iran with weapons. Such statements are simply embarrassing to hear," Lavrov said.

He emphasized that Russia is interested in de-escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, as instability in this strategically important region affects the global economy.

Lavrov noted that despite existing sanctions, Russia remains part of the global economy and continues to maintain trade, economic, and investment ties with most countries.

He also stated that there are forces on the international stage that are interested in prolonging the conflict and pushing the parties toward further confrontation. Russia, he stressed, does not belong to such states and advocates for de-escalation.
