Russian State Duma Adopts Laws Introducing Temporary Restrictions on Russians Fleeing Abroad

Members of the Russian State Duma have passed laws in the second and third readings that introduce temporary restrictive measures against individuals who have fled Russia and are evading punishment.

"These measures target extremists, traitors to our country, those who have spent years trying to destroy our state, justify Nazism, and insult our soldiers and officers, while hiding from justice in other countries. They must understand that punishment will eventually catch up with them," said Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma.

Among the restrictive measures to be applied to Russians residing abroad will be: suspension of property registration in Russia, freezing and blocking of bank accounts and other assets, restrictions on driving licenses, denial of electronic government services, and prohibition on registering as an individual entrepreneur, among others.

The full list of restrictions includes 14 points. The law will come into effect upon its official publication.
