In an effort to reduce regional debt burdens, the Russian government has forgiven part of the budgetary loan debt for nine more regions.

Among those regions are Ivanovo, Oryol, Tambov, Tver, Leningrad, and Saratov Oblasts, as well as the Altai Republic, Bashkortostan, and Chechnya. The total amount of debt relief amounts to 8.37 billion rubles. As Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin emphasized, these regions have actively invested their own funds in developing engineering infrastructure, key settlements, modernizing utilities, relocating citizens from dilapidated housing, supporting industry, renewing public transport, and participating in national projects.

Overall, regional debt has already been reduced by 286 billion rubles in 2026. So far, 71 regions have taken advantage of this opportunity.
