Russia has become a founding member of the World Organization for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence. The agreement to establish the new international body was signed in Shanghai ahead of the opening of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC).

According to the office of Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Government Administration Dmitry Grigorenko, the document was signed on behalf of Russia by Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Maksut Shadaev. The decision was previously approved by the Russian government.

The organization aims to enhance international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, expand collaboration between countries in the development and implementation of AI technologies, and develop joint approaches to their advancement and application.

The signing took place on the eve of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which is held in Shanghai and traditionally brings together representatives of governments, businesses, scientific communities, and leading technology companies from around the world.
