An "enhanced security zone" has been established in Omani territorial waters, south of the usual shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC).

Security in the area is being provided by the U.S. Navy, which has taken on the responsibility of organizing the evacuation of commercial vessels from the conflict zone. The Center advises mariners to closely coordinate their actions with Omani authorities, as heavy traffic is expected through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Center also warns that passage near the usual routes in the international vessel traffic separation zone remains highly dangerous due to mines that have not yet been fully surveyed and neutralized.

  • Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the start of an operation to evacuate commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
