Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering a temporary ceasefire in the Special Military Operation zone during the Victory Day celebrations, according to Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader. Putin informed U.S. President Donald Trump about this proposal during a phone conversation, Ushakov reported.
Ushakov noted that Trump expressed support for the initiative and positively assessed such steps in general. He recalled that Washington had also reacted favorably to the short-term Easter truce between Russia and Ukraine earlier.
This would involve a temporary suspension of hostilities, similar to the one introduced in April. At that time, the ceasefire was in effect from April 11-12 and was accompanied by humanitarian measures. Specifically, a few days prior, both sides exchanged the remains of fallen soldiers: Ukraine received around a thousand bodies, while Russia received several dozen.
