The Russian government has approved an updated road construction and reconstruction program until 2031. The document envisions a large-scale modernization of federal and regional road networks as part of the national project "Infrastructure for Life".

According to the plan, more than 2,000 km of roads are expected to be built and upgraded by the end of 2031. One of the key priorities will be the development of the backbone network of federal highways. The plan includes work on major routes, including the M-2 "Crimea", M-4 "Don", M-7 "Volga", M-8 "Kholmogory", M-9 "Baltia", as well as R-21 "Kola", R-22 "Caspian" and R-217 "Caucasus" highways.

Additionally, road projects in the master plans of cities in the Far East and Arctic regions are also included, along with the restoration of road infrastructure in new regions. Construction of bypass roads around Orenburg, Slyudyanka, and Baikalsk is planned, as well as reconstruction of sections of the M-5 "Ural", R-254 "Irtysh", and R-504 "Kolyma" highways.

Special attention is given to the development of international transport corridors. This includes the "West-East" route from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok with access to China, and the "North-South" route connecting the northwestern part of the country with the Black, Azov, and Caspian Seas. As part of these projects, new high-speed sections, bypasses of major settlements, and access roads to ports are planned to be constructed.
