Former head of Russian state corporation "Rosnano", Anatoly Chubais, has filed a petition in the Federal Court of Canada seeking the removal of Canadian sanctions against him, according to court documents reported by "Kommersant".

Chubais requested the court to issue an order compelling local authorities to fulfill their duties or refrain from actions that violate the law.

In September 2025, Chubais had previously approached the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asking to be removed from the sanctions list, but no response was received within the 90-day decision-making period.

To justify the necessity of lifting sanctions, Chubais submitted his biography, highlighting his "historical opposition" to the Russian President long before the start of the Special Military Operation (SVO) (a term used in Russia to refer to the military conflict in Ukraine), mentioned his participation in protests against the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and his subsequent "exile" from Russia. He claimed that Canadian sanctions have caused him "significant reputational damage" and are destroying "fragile ties with the only places where he can live and support himself and his family."

Chubais has been under Canadian sanctions since June 2025.
