The United States abstained in a vote on an anti-Russian resolution submitted to the UN General Assembly. The document was drafted by Ukraine and discussed during the 11th emergency special session, according to TASS.
One hundred and seven countries voted in favor of the resolution. Twelve countries, including Russia, Belarus, Iran, and North Korea, voted against it. Fifty-one delegations, including the U.S., chose to remain neutral; among them were Armenia, Brazil, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Serbia, and Uzbekistan.
Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Anna Evstigneeva stated during her speech that Kyiv is opting for "politicized voting" instead of seeking compromises and diplomatic solutions. She emphasized that sustainable peace can only be achieved through mutually acceptable security guarantees for both Russia and Ukraine.
The Russian side also reminded that unlike UN Security Council decisions, General Assembly resolutions do not have legally binding force. Evstigneeva noted that a year ago, the Security Council adopted Resolution 2774, which reaffirmed the need for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
