Bashkortostan Culture Minister Amina Shafikova has been placed in pre-trial detention as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, according to Izvestia.
Shafikova is accused of embezzlement and receiving a bribe in an especially large amount. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Law enforcement officials detained Shafikova in Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan (a federal subject of Russia), and transported her to Moscow. This information was made public yesterday. She has held the position of Culture Minister of Bashkortostan since 2012.
