Kaliningrad Region Enters 2026 with a Troubling Business Trend: 344 Companies Shut Down

The Kaliningrad region ushered in 2026 with a worrying statistic: the number of businesses in the area has decreased by 344. According to Kaliningradstat (regional statistics agency), there are now 32,500 registered organizations, including 32 full-fledged legal entities, as reported by "Kaliningrad News".

The statistics on company openings and closures are disheartening: 1,311 new companies were established over the year, but 1,784 ceased operations. The difference of 473 businesses is a sign of systemic economic issues.

Meanwhile, there are over 39,000 individual entrepreneurs in the region. The most popular sectors for business are trade, construction, real estate transactions, transportation, and manufacturing. These areas are traditionally considered the most profitable for the region.

Experts attribute the negative trend to economic instability and rising costs for small and medium-sized businesses – not all companies manage to survive.
