The second round of negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine, originally scheduled for February 1, will now take place on February 4-5, according to Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The change in timing, Peskov explained, is due to the need for additional coordination of schedules among all participants. The venue for the meeting remains the same: consultations will be held in Abu Dhabi.
Previously, the Kremlin had tentatively set February 1 as the date for the next round of talks, a date also reported by Western media outlets. Peskov clarified that the work of the security group will now continue in the middle of the week.
The previous round of negotiations, involving representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, with the assistance of the United Arab Emirates, took place in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24 in a closed format. The parties described the dialogue as constructive. The Russian delegation was led by Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
Negotiations were held without media access, and details of the discussions were not disclosed. The second meeting lasted slightly over three hours. According to media reports, among the most challenging topics discussed were territorial issues and the possible formation of a buffer zone.
It was reported that during these talks, Russian and Ukrainian representatives directly discussed the parameters of a peace plan that the United States has been coordinating with the parties since autumn 2025. The Kremlin has previously emphasized that resolving territorial issues is a key condition for sustainable settlement.
