In 2025, EU countries purchased 37.992 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia, 20.269 billion cubic meters of which were liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to data published by the European analytical agency Bruegel.
Compared to the previous year, imports of Russian gas decreased by almost half, by 16.489 billion cubic meters. The reason for this trend was the cessation of gas transit through Ukraine after the expiration of the transit contract.
Among global gas suppliers to the EU, Russia took fourth place with a share of 12.1%. The leaders in gas supplies were Norway (97.1 billion cubic meters, 31% of total imports), the United States (82.9 billion cubic meters, 26.5% of total imports), and Algeria (38.6 billion cubic meters, 12.3% of total imports).
