The government has approved the Concept of Scientific and Technological Development of the Transport System until 2035. This is the first strategic document in the industry that sets long-term goals for creating innovative infrastructure, introducing advanced technologies, as well as mastering the production of new materials and equipment for transport.

As Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev reported, within the framework of the concept implementation, the Ministry of Transport together with the Russian Academy of Sciences intends to establish an intersectoral scientific center. In addition, nine specialized centers and about 50 laboratories focused on solving key scientific and technological problems of the transport industry are planned to be opened at leading universities in the country.

The work of the new centers will focus on the development of high-speed rail communication, creation of autonomous and unmanned vehicles, introduction of electric cars and charging infrastructure, development of hydrogen-fueled transport, formation of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, and improvement of transport logistics technologies.

Coordination of scientific research and experimental design work for the transport complex will be carried out by a specialized transport research institute. It is planned to create it within the structure of the Russian Transport University, which will allow combining the scientific potential and practical competencies of the industry.

It is expected that the implementation of the concept will remove technological constraints and lay the foundation for the formation of a modern, efficient, and sustainable transport system in the country.

Currently, the Ministry of Transport is preparing a detailed action plan for the implementation of the concept. The document is expected to be approved by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
