More than 30 Russian regions will receive subsidies totaling 264.5 million rubles by the end of 2025 to develop genomic selection in племенном животноводстве. The funding is aimed at strengthening the technological base of the industry and enhancing food security in the country. The funds will be distributed in the form of compensation for part of the costs incurred by agricultural producers for conducting genomic evaluation of breeding calf progeny. Among the beneficiaries are such regions as the Republics of Crimea, Мордовия, and Татарстан, the Perm Krai, as well as the also areas such as the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaliningrad, Lipetsk, Tula, and Yaroslavl regions. Genomic selection is a modern method based on molecular-genetic analysis of animal DNA. It allows for highly accurate confirmation of the origin of breeding calf progeny, detection of carriers of inherited diseases, determination of the genetic potential and breeding value of an individual at an early stage. The introduction of such technologies accelerates the breeding process, improves the efficiency of selecting the best breeders, and contributes to the creation of high-yielding and genetically healthy livestock. This measure is aimed at modernizing the agro-industrial complex technologically and reducing dependence on foreign breeding material.
