The Riigikogu (Estonian parliament) rejected in the first reading a bill to close all border crossings on the border with Russia. The bill was initiated by the conservative party "Isamaa". This was reported by the newspaper Postimees.
Twenty deputies voted in favor of closing the border with Russia, while 47 deputies voted against. The bill was withdrawn from consideration, failing to gain the support of 51 members of parliament.
There are currently three border crossings in operation on the Russian-Estonian border: "Luhamaa", "Koivula", and "Narva". The latter operates only during daylight hours.
