The goal of the parliamentary initiative is not just to add another holiday to the calendar, but to consolidate society and "restore historical justice."
The initiative to declare November 7 a holiday belongs to a group of deputies led by the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Gennady Zyuganov. The bill has been posted in the electronic database of the State Duma.
The bill proposes amendments to the article of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation on non-working public holidays.
The holiday is intended to commemorate the day of the October Revolution. In the previous version—from 1918 to 1991—the date was considered the main state holiday and a day off, and the holiday itself was called the Day of the Great October Socialist Revolution. In the current version of the bill, the description "Great Revolution" does not appear, but in the explanatory note to the document, the deputies of the State Duma emphasized that preserving the date of the revolution in historical memory will contribute to strengthening civic cohesion in the context of the hybrid war waged by the collective West against Russia, and millions of citizens have a "special relationship" to November 7.
